Course Description

Starting with the rise of the Roman Empire and ending with the global perspective of the World Wars, students will learn about the movement of human history through the Medieval periods. Students will be taking a tour around the world and learning about different civilizations and cultures that shaped the world in which we live. Some of the topics will include: The Roman Empire, the rise of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, the Byzantine Empire, Medieval China, Medieval Japan, Medieval Europe, the Renaissance, the Protestant Reformation, the Age of Exploration, the Enlightenment, the rise of Democratic movements in American and France, the rise and rule of Napoleon, Absolutism, the Industrial Revolution around the world, World War 1, the Russian Revolution, the rise of totalitarianism in Japan, Germany and Italy, the global depression, World War 2, and the Cold War.

This is essential for students preparing to enter high school history and geography. For students to pass the exams they will need to pass in high school and be prepared for AP courses, students need a foundational understanding of world geography and history. This will put them a step ahead of the competition and help students stand out in their classes. World history follows a certain trajectory on a global scale, and understanding how that grew over time is important for all students looking to perform in high school.
